Academics are important. But equally important are skills that will help your kids be Autonomous, Compassionate, Empowered Students
In this small group, your teen will gain practical skills that create a foundation and help them to engage authentically in high school and ultimately, when the time is right, successfully navigate the sometimes tricky and stressful college search and application process.
These include learning to:
✓ Set goals
✓ Deepen their self-awareness
✓ Develop curiosity and interests
✓ Choose extra-curricular activities with intention and aligned with interests
✓ Manage time and meet deadlines
✓ Study effectively
✓ Advocate for themselves
✓ Handle challenges that may lie ahead
✓ Rebound from setbacks
ACES is a program for students starting in 9th or 10th grade that meets once every two weeks for nine months. The group setting is a powerful and supportive way to learn and practice these skills - with a side benefit of having your very own cheering squad!
Each highly interactive meeting is facilitator-led by our co-founder Eydie Balsam along with special guest speakers.
Having a small group provides the best learning environment, so we insist on limiting it to 12 spots - don't wait to sign up!
This foundational program for your 9th or 10th grader will ensure that they hit their junior year running and have the groundwork needed to successfully navigate their college search and application process with ease.
✓ Organizational skills to manage moving parts and deadlines
✓ Personal insight to recognize which schools and activities are best matches for them
✓ The resiliency to handle the inevitable obstacles
✓ The confidence to apply to the program of their dreams
In our bi-weekly meetings, participants develop new proficiencies. This is NOT a college application/admissions program – it is a program geared for teens to help them understand who they are and discover their curiosity and help them develop into autonomous, compassionate, empowered students. No matter what a student's high school journey looks like, we believe that there are essential frameworks to master as they navigate their own paths. These include:
✓ Developing a healthy curiosity
✓ Finding their voice
✓ Thinking critically
✓ Setting priorities
✓ Staying organized
✓ Solving problems creatively
✓ Practicing compassion and humility
✓ Strengthening leadership skills (yes, for introverts too!)
✓ Cultivating confident public speaking skills
The best way to learn something is to try it on for size yourself. We’ve designed our program to be fun while secretly teaching a few crucial skills in the process.
Each session includes activities, group exercises, and interesting conversations to help students uncover and strengthen their confidence, aptitudes, and curiosities.
Have you ever tried to talk to your child about X and gotten an eye roll? Of course, you have! You’re their parent!
That’s why Head Toward College is so popular among parents because the kids actually listen to Eydie!
With over 20 years of working with teenagers, as their tutor, advisor, and college coach, and dual master's degrees in social work and education (and raising 3 teenagers of her own), Eydie knows how to reach and speak to teenagers as they build these lifelong skills.
In addition to academics and extracurricular activities, your high schooler will become an Autonomous, Compassionate, Empowered Student.
We encourage our students to follow their passions and engage in extracurricular activities. Therefore, our programming is scheduled to allow for their busy schedules. ACES meets monthly on Sundays (in person), with an additional monthly zoom meeting scheduled for Monday evenings once a month.
Start Date: October 17, 2021
End Date: June 12th, 2022
Sundays: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (in person - HTC offices, Newton, MA)
Mondays: 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (via zoom)
The best results are always in person, but of course, we will be following reasonable COVID precautions as we go along.
If you want your child to build a foundation of confidence and resiliency for high school, college, and beyond...this program is for them.
But don’t wait - spots are limited!
So grab a spot for your teen before it fills up!
“I wish this program was around when I was in 9th grade. I didn't have the chance to learn these skills until I needed them and had to learn them the hard way."
